The Essex County Workforce Development Board (WDB) is the driving force behind workforce innovation, job creation, and economic growth in our community. We are dedicated to ensuring that Essex County’s workforce is equipped with the skills, training, and resources needed to thrive in today’s evolving job market.

 

The Workforce Development Board, in concert with the County Executive, serves as a policy-making body on workforce development and is mandated by the Federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). Represented by a diverse group of public and private sector stakeholders, the Board is responsible for developing strategies and policies that create a seamless, coordinated One-Stop System. This system integrates educational, employment, and training programs to meet the current and future demands of Essex County employers. 

 

The WDB operates through specialized committees that focus on key areas of workforce development, ensuring that job seekers, businesses, and community partners receive the support and resources needed for success.

Committees and Meeting Schedule

 

  • Small Business Committee: Supports entrepreneurs and small business owners by developing policies and programs that enhance workforce training, access to funding, and business growth opportunities.

 

  • Disability Committee: Advocates for inclusive workforce policies and accessible employment programs for individuals with disabilities, ensuring equal access to job training, career development, and workplace accommodations.

 

  • Education-Literacy Committee: Focuses on adult education, workforce literacy, and skills development, ensuring that job seekers have the foundational knowledge required for employment success.

 

  • Oversight Committee: Oversees the strategic direction and governance of the Workforce Development Board, ensuring compliance with federal and state workforce policies while guiding workforce initiatives.

 

  • One-Stop Partners/Welfare-to-Work Operations Committee: Coordinates the One-Stop System by integrating employment, training, and social services to assist individuals transitioning from public assistance to sustainable employment.

 

  • Youth Investment Council: Designs and oversees youth workforce programs, including internships, apprenticeships, job training, and educational initiatives to prepare young adults for the job market.

 

  • Welfare-to-Work Committee: Develops programs to support low-income individuals and public assistance recipients by providing job readiness training, career counseling, and employment placement services.
