The Gauchos captured their Region I Championship in dramatic fashion when they mounted a come-from-behind 4-3 overtime victory over the Olney Rangers of Maryland who were, at the time, ranked as the #2 team in the nation.  The regional championship landed them atop a field of 16 state cup champions hailing from Virginia to Vermont.

As Region I Champions, the Gauchos reached the pinnacle of U. S. Youth Soccer competition by qualifying to compete for the National Championship that was held in late July in Phoenix, Arizona.  There, the team acquitted itself with distinction by defeating the then-#1 ranked team in the nation, before falling to the eventual national champions and runners-up.  The Gauchos were further recognized for their outstanding performance by having two of their players, Miles Hackett and Troy Carrington, named to the National Championship All-Star Team.

Prior to winning the Region I Championship, the Gauchos captured the 2011 New Jersey State Cup Championship by first defeating the Jersey Knights (6-0), and then TSF Academy (3-1) in another nail-biting double overtime victory on May 23, 2011, at the Wall Soccer Complex, thereby winning the team’s second State Cup title in three years.

The 2011 SDFC Gauchos Boys Soccer Team is comprised of the following members from across northern New Jersey: Zachary Beckerman and Bobby Schneiderman from Livingston H. S.; Michael Sorin from Millburn H. S.; Brian Harnett and Alexander Patel from Montclair H. S.; Sam Eisen, Miles Hackett and Justin Gonsalves from Montclair Kimberly Academy; Carter Spryrka, Patrick Thees, Liam Isola and Christopher Scian from Seton Hall Prep; Troy Carrington from Verona H. S.; Harrison Steadman from Kinnelon H. S.; Randy Casallas from Paramus H. S.; Jose Meza from Paramus Catholic H. S.; and Justin Yacovino from Bergen Catholic H. S.

The Gauchos were coached by Head Coach Jorden Scott, who also serves as the Assistant Coach for the Manhattan College Men’s Soccer Team, and Assistant Coach Frank Isola, a sports reporter for The New York Daily News and the SNY Network.

The Board’s Commendation was sponsored and presented by Freeholder Patricia Sebold of Livingston.  During her remarks, Freeholder Sebold congratulated the team members for their incredible season, saying, “What you’ve accomplished is truly amazing.  You’ve represented yourselves so well and have made all of us… your families, your coaches, and all of Essex County… so proud of you.”

Head Coach Jorden Scott thanked the Board, “…for what is a wonderful gesture and great recognition.”  He went on to applaud each of the players who, since the age of 7, “…have demonstrated a real commitment and a real desire to be a better person, to be a better player, and then represent not only themselves, but their team and the county across the country.”  Scott also thanked the players’ parents for supporting him, and the team, since Day One, adding, “you are part of this recognition… we would not be here this evening if it wasn’t for you.”

The Soccer Domain Football Club (SDFC) was created in 2009 for high school players and provides a platform for players to play and compete at the highest level of youth soccer including State, Regional and National play.  It was established for the specific purpose of developing a competitive youth soccer program whose goals are to develop players and teams that can compete at high levels within the framework of developing character traits such as self-esteem, confidence, leadership and sportsmanship; objectives that are reached through the mature behavior, high level of training and exemplary conduct of the coaches, parents and officials of the Club.
